What does a goldfish and a fresh salad have in common? Not much, you might say, but we hope for show you otherwise. Join us at Dundee Gardens this Sunday afternoon for a class sure to wet your curiosity! Students will begin the class by cleaning and preparing the aquarium system for its new inhabitants. Once the system is clean, children will explore the assembly of the filtration system - learning the pattern of water flow as well as the importance of each component of the filter.
To complete the class, children will add new inhabitants to this aquatic ecosystem: snails, fish, and even some shrimp. The role each of this plays in their ecosystem will be discussed and explained, and children will get up close and personal with each. Finally, to complete our aquatic habitat, students will plant a floating garden of lettuce and herbs. This garden will grow to act as a living filtration system for this aquarium - as well as a harvestable food source!
